About Cultivating Literacy
Cultivating Literacy is a nonprofit based in San Jose, CA, dedicated to empowering families and young readers through customized literacy coaching, resources, and culturally responsive programming. We partner with schools to co-create joyful, multilingual learning experiences rooted in family connection and play.
The Role
We are seeking a creative and experienced Instructional Designer / Curriculum Developer to design high-quality, culturally inclusive literacy content for TK–3rd grade learners. The resources you create will be integrated into our existing digital literacy portal to support families, coaches, and educators.
Responsibilities
Design and develop engaging bilingual (English/ Español), age-appropriate literacy activities and resources
Align materials with early childhood literacy standards and CL’s family-centered approach
Translate evidence-based reading strategies into easy-to-use digital content
Collaborate with program staff to ensure usability across diverse families and communities
Qualifications
US-based
Bilingual English/Spanish
Classroom experience in early childhood or elementary settings (TK–3rd)
Expertise in early literacy instruction and family engagement strategies
Strong instructional design and curriculum writing skills (digital experience a plus)
Ability to create inclusive content that reflects diverse learners and home languages
Organized, self-directed, and comfortable collaborating remotely.
Position Details
Type: Contract (Part-Time, Remote)
Duration: 3–6 months
Hours: Flexible
Pay: $25–$35/hour, depending on experience
Location: Remote (U.S.-based; must align with Pacific Time availability)
