About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented High School StepMojo Teacher's Assistant to join our team at North Star Academy in Newark, NJ. As a Teacher's Assistant, you will play a critical support role in delivering high-quality online learning experiences to our students. You will work closely with our online instructors, students, and staff to ensure that our students receive the support they need to succeed in their online courses. Key Responsibilities

• Manage the classroom/workspace environment, creating a safe, structured, and effective learning environment that excites and invests students
• Provide in-person support for students, including tracking and monitoring student attendance, notifying school-site coordinators of attendance issues, and serving as a thought partner to work through issues during independent work time
• Establish asynchronous check-in routines and procedures with each course instructor, sharing insights on how students are engaging with the content and providing feedback to StepMojo and North Star
• Collaborate with StepMojo and North Star staff to improve the pilot implementation, participating in periodic feedback sessions and ongoing training
• Assist teachers with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities, potentially teaching small groups of students and providing one-on-one and small group tutoring daily
• Observe Master Teachers to improve instructional techniques and classroom management, providing administrative support, including copying, hallway duty, and organizing classroom materials

Essential Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities, with 1-2 years of experience preferred
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
• Relentless commitment to the mission of educating urban students, with a belief in and alignment with Uncommon's core beliefs and educational philosophy
• Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required, with a background in education not necessary, although a demonstrated passion for working with K-12 students is essential

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities, with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by our students
• Experience with online learning platforms and technology, with the ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues and provide support to students
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, teachers, and staff

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

The starting compensation for this role is $47,000, with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 403(b) retirement plan.
