Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced World Languages Instructor to join our pool of talented faculty members. As a World Languages Instructor, you will have the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses in introductory to advanced foreign language, upper division literature, or linguistics, and contribute to the department's mission of promoting language proficiency, cultural awareness, and academic excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in introductory to advanced foreign language, upper division literature, or linguistics, as assigned by the department chair
- Hold regular office hours to provide academic support and guidance to students
- Work cooperatively with staff, chair, and other faculty members to achieve departmental goals and objectives
- Participate in course assessment activities to ensure academic excellence and continuous improvement
- Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity, including age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation
- Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to organize and deliver courses, ensuring a engaging and interactive learning experience for students
Essential Qualifications
- M.A., Ph.D., or equivalent in a language or literature other than English (or related field)
- Native or near-native competence in the language of instruction, as well as English
- Strong teaching skills and competence or training in second language pedagogy, and possibly technology-enhanced language learning
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching undergraduate courses in world languages, literature, or linguistics
- Familiarity with the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) or similar online learning platforms
- Knowledge of language learning theories and methodologies, including technology-enhanced language learning
