Position Overview: Verbatim Court Reporter Transcriptionist
We are seeking a highly skilled Verbatim Court Reporter Transcriptionist to transcribe court proceedings, trials, and depositions from audio recordings with precision and accuracy. This is a contract position that offers the flexibility of setting your own working hours, making it an ideal opportunity for those who value work-life balance and are looking for a challenging and rewarding role.
Key Responsibilities
- Audio Transcription: Transcribe court proceedings, trials, and depositions from audio recordings with a high degree of accuracy, maintaining a strict verbatim format and identifying speakers correctly.
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance measures to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of transcripts with court formatting rules, utilizing knowledge of QA processes to maintain high transcription standards.
- Colloquy Knowledge: Demonstrate a strong understanding of legal terminologies, colloquy, and court-specific language to produce high-quality transcripts.
- Time Management: Manage your workload to meet moderately paced turnaround times, typically allowing 1 day per 1 hour of assigned audio, while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines consistently.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Verbatim Transcription Experience: Proven experience in transcribing court proceedings, trials, and depositions with adherence to court formatting rules. Experience with large jury trials is highly desirable.
- AAERT Certification: AAERT certified applicants will receive premier consideration for this position, highlighting our commitment to excellence in transcription.
- Q&A and Colloquy Knowledge: The ability to distinguish and format Q&A and colloquy correctly is essential.
- Software Proficiency: Competence in using transcription software such as For the Record and Express Scribe, as well as Microsoft Office, is required.
- Skills Assessment: You must be willing to undergo a skills assessment test to evaluate your transcription abilities.
- Availability: You should be able to commit to transcribing a minimum of 6 hours of audio per week.
Technical Requirements
To perform this role effectively, you will need:
- Operating System: Windows 10 or 11.
- Software: Office 365, For the Record, and Express Scribe.
- Internet Connection: A strong and reliable internet connection to facilitate seamless communication and data transfer.
- Transcription Pedal: A transcription foot pedal for hands-free control of audio playback.
- Transcription Headphones: High-quality transcription headphones for clear and accurate listening.
