Job Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified Adult Basic Education Instructor to plan, implement, and assess curriculum for ABE students in our district. The successful candidate will have a strong background in adult education, excellent teaching and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and community partners. As an ABE Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching a range of subjects, including GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), US Citizenship, Adult Diploma, digital literacy, workplace skills, career and post-secondary planning, basic literacy and numeracy, and basic life skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Design and Instruction: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with Minnesota Department of Education standards and Detroit Lakes Adult Basic Education program goals.
- Student Support: Provide individualized support to students in a resource room setting, utilizing approved distance learning platforms to facilitate learning and goal completion.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Analyze, evaluate, and interpret student work and comprehension through informal, formal, and standardized assessments.
- Supervision and Leadership: Direct and supervise unlicensed staff and volunteers who assist with implementing and delivering curriculum.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with students, staff, and community partners to promote program goals and student success.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree in education, adult education, or a related field is required.
- Minnesota Teacher's Certification: Current Minnesota Teacher's certification is required.
- Adult Education Experience: Knowledge of adult student characteristics and adult basic education content areas is preferred.
- Teaching Ability: Proven teaching ability in ABE content areas and standards is essential.
- Leadership and Supervision: Ability to supervise and utilize paraprofessionals, work-study students, and volunteers.
