Making Waves Education Foundation is a pioneering Bay Area nonprofit organization dedicated to educational equity. We support Making Waves Academy, a public charter school serving over 1,100 students in grades 5-12, and provide college and career programming for more than 430 college students. Our mission is to make college affordable and graduation attainable for historically underrepresented and underserved students. About the Campus Engagement & Success Internship
Our internship program provides a unique opportunity for college students to gain hands-on experience in a supportive and accessible remote work environment. As a Campus Engagement & Success Intern, you will be part of the Making Waves College and Career team, working on projects related to program growth and success. This paid, part-time internship is ideal for current college students in California who are passionate about education, equity, and student success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, schedule, and facilitate monthly peer group meetings to foster a supportive community among students.
- Provide guidance and perspective on college life, serving as a facilitator to connect students with campus resources and encourage academic success.
- Offer peer support, modeling effective learning strategies and serving as an accountability partner to members of the Making Waves College and Career Program.
- Facilitate student learning skill development and goal-setting group sessions using a growth mindset approach.
- Serve as a role model, helping students address challenges and assess progress toward their goals.
- Support students with course planning and academic decision-making.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Participate in trainings and follow-up meetings as assigned to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Maintain accurate records of interactions, progress, and outcomes to evaluate the effectiveness of support services and inform program improvements.
Requirements and Qualifications:
To be considered for this internship, you must:
- Be a current college student located in California.
- Be majoring in, or have experience or related skills in, a field related to education, student support, or a similar area (all majors welcome).
- Have experience using Microsoft Word and email communications.
- Be able to work collaboratively with others and possess good attention to detail.
- Be organized and able to consistently meet deadlines and communicate updates related to projects.
- Be able to work a set schedule during the work week and have experience using Zoom or other video/telephone software programs.
- Be enrolled at San Francisco State University, Cal State East Bay, or Sacramento State University.
