As a key member of the Scientific Affairs team, you will be responsible for producing Real-World Evidence (RWE) through advanced analytics and innovative approaches in the clinical trials space.
About the Role
The Data Scientist will play a vital role in driving business decisions by analyzing complex data sets and providing actionable insights. This full-time, remote position reports to the Chief, Clinical Information Science, and offers a unique opportunity to work with a leading healthcare company.
Key Responsibilities
- Mine raw data sets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data sources or licensed platforms, analyze and interpret results, and help shape research methodology.
- Collaborate with various members of the Walgreens Clinical Trials colleagues to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial solicitations.
- Clean, transform, and store data into an integrated data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization.
- Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/RWD to uncover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes.
- Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities, applying advanced analytics and tools to resolve scientific questions from biopharmaceutical companies.
- Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies.
- Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and promptly interpretable outputs from RWE studies and analyses.
- Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for internal and external utilization.
- Conduct a reasonable level of diligence on new real-world data suppliers/vendors and drive RWD quality assessments to inform investment decisions.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- Experience in designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data.
- Knowledge of common statistical testing methods, including generalized linear models, clustering and partitioning, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis.
- Experience handling large data from multiple data sources.
- Experience handling protected patient health information.
- Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI insight tools.
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as statistics, biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, or engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
To stand out as a candidate, you should have:
- A PhD or graduate degree in statistics/biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in EMR/Health IT, disease registries, and insurance claims databases.
- Knowledge of clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD9/10/ReadCode).
- Experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR).
- Experience working with alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and/or solutions.
- Experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data, computational statistics.
- A strong understanding of statistics and machine learning techniques, with the ability to continue self-learning of technical and non-technical skills.
