The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for designing and improving products, providing technical support, and collaborating with various teams to ensure product feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks)
- Collaborate with internal teams and market partners to clarify design requirements and align project scope and planning
- Conduct engineering analyses such as tolerance stack‑ups, material selection, stress calculations, and basic FEA
- Support prototyping activities, including CAD and assembly of test units to create display concepts or working models
- Participate in product testing, validation, and documentation of results
- Assist in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement activities for existing products
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost‑effective, and production‑ready
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation
- Works closely with sales and marketing, procurement, quality, designers, model makers, testing, and other skilled staff
- Produce reports and present ideas to colleagues at various stages of the design process
- Work within budgets and deadlines to meet project goals
- Perform other assignments as directed by local management
Skills
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Understands current and potential technologies and production processes of materials (such as wood, glass, metals and plastics)
- Be creative with an eye for form, fit, and function
- Understand different materials and production methods
- Have technical, practical and scientific knowledge and ability
- Work well in a team
- Be persuasive and able to 'sell' their ideas to others
- Be able to use drawings, 3D models and computer designs to express creative ideas
- Have strong IT skills
- Be good at planning and organizing
- Be good at explaining ideas to people with varying levels of technical knowledge
- Have listening and questioning skills for discussing design briefs and understanding feedback from colleagues
- Be an independent self-starter who is capable of functioning in a team environment
