About the position
The Mental Health Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for managing billing processes related to mental health services, ensuring accurate and timely billing for patients and third-party payers. This part-time position offers hybrid work options, allowing for flexibility in the work environment while requiring strong organizational and communication skills to handle inquiries and billing tasks effectively.
Responsibilities
• Takes calls and responds to patient and third-party inquiries regarding services, accounts, insurance changes, and billing procedures.

• Posts accounts receivable payments and adjustments.
,
• Validates accuracy of system posted accounts receivable payments.
,
• Manually sorts and labels outgoing mail and sorts, scans, and distributes incoming mail.

• Greets patients at the front desk when working in the office, as required.
,
• Works jointly with the office manager in onboarding clients.
,
• Performs billing records related projects.
,
• Researches and requests refunds as appropriate.
,
• Processes patient credit card payments.
Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent.
,
• Medical or insurance billing office experience, preferably with a focus in mental health billing, including customer service.
,
• Understanding of revenue cycle and ability to interact with government and commercial insurances.
,
• Sound decision-making ability with respect to complex claims processing workflows including the use of external resources.

• Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases.
,
• Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
,
• Ability to organize tasks, files, and emails.
,
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
,
• Knowledge of billing procedures, medical terminology, and CPT/ICD coding highly preferred.

• Cash handling experience and prior experience with Simple Practice or InSync EHR preferred.
