As a Forward-Deployed Engineer on our team, you will play a defining role in how we grow our most strategic partnerships and unlock new product and commercial opportunities. You will work directly with senior leaders at some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies to translate their needs into prototypes, features, and systems that strengthen our platform and deepen our value. You will operate at the intersection of engineering, product, and go-to-market — helping Tandem move from vendor to embedded infrastructure and strategic partner.
This is a high-trust, externally facing role for someone who can reason from first principles, prototype quickly, and communicate clearly with both executives and engineers. The impact is outsized: your work will directly influence how new drugs get to market, how patients access treatment, and how Tandem grows into a billion-dollar business.

Work directly with key life sciences clients to shape and deliver new product and data initiatives
Translate complex commercial and workflow needs into real prototypes, feature specs, or data products
Design and sometimes build custom workflows, pipelines, or integrations — especially where AI/ML adds value
Represent Tandem in external technical discussions, helping pharma leaders think creatively about what’s possible
Collaborate with BD and account teams to deepen relationships and unlock new commercial opportunities
Help the product and eng teams decide what to productize vs. pilot vs. leave as bespoke to individual clients
Lay the foundation for a forward-deployed engineering function over time
Strong programming skills and general Computer Science knowledge
Experience driving engineering projects end-to-end, ideally in fast-paced, externally-facing or client-driven environments
Proficiency with modern AI/ML technologies (e.g., LLM APIs, PyTorch, TensorFlow) and a strong foundation in full-stack web development (we use Python, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and Kubernetes)
Strong product instincts — you know what’s valuable, what’s shippable, and how to translate between the two
Strong written and verbal communication that allows you to be an effective participant in both internal debates and external relationships
Track record of moving quickly, finding shortcuts, and going to unreasonable lengths to deliver on goals

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our company’s size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Tandem (for full-time employees). Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity.
