We’re looking for a strategic and detail-oriented Controller to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will play a critical role in shaping and managing our accounting infrastructure, financial reporting, and internal controls. This is a hands-on leadership role that will directly support the Foundation’s operational growth, ensure compliance, and help build scalable finance processes from the ground up.
ResponsibilitiesOversee all financial accounting and reporting for Walrus Foundation and its subsidiaries.
Take global ownership of the operational accounting, tax, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory filings, as well as the development and implementation of strategies that improve accounting operational efficiencies, effectiveness, and scalability of policies, processes, platforms, and people.
Expert in US GAAP and IFRS standards, oversee and manage A/R, A/P, monthly close and general accounting, including detailed analysis, reconciliation, and reporting of all general ledger accounts and financial results for all entities.
Oversee tax compliance and planning efforts across multiple entities, including but not limited to U.S. and Cayman structures, in partnership with external tax advisors to ensure appropriate filings, payments, and adherence to relevant regulatory requirements.
Evaluate new accounting pronouncements, assess impact on financial reporting, and work with external accounting firms to assess the impact of the latest accounting treatments on all items of the financial statements.
Partner with business units to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Provide insights and analysis to support strategic planning.
Oversee teams of external advisors and consultants for specific financial processes (e.g., GL Accounting, Tax Compliance, Payroll, and AP Management)
Play a key role in expanding the company’s global footprint, supporting international subsidiary set up, transfer pricing, and building international accounting processes.
Cultivate and develop relationships with external accounting and audit firms, driving completion of all audit-related deliverables and annual filings.
What You’ll Have:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
7+ years of direct professional experience with at least 3 years in public accounting (Big 4 preferred), including prior responsibility for managing a company or division’s financial operations in a Controller or similar senior finance role.
Prior experience in financial services, fintech or crypto preferred.
Experience sourcing and implementing accounting and finance systems such as NetSuite, Brex, Ramp, Bill.com, etc.
Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, able to communicate complex concepts and risk factors to stakeholders and influence decision making
Natural curiosity and a drive to learn by doing. The Web3 landscape evolves quickly, and our team thrives on navigating ambiguity and tackling unfamiliar challenges. We are self-starters who approach new problems with “I’ll figure it out” energy, no matter how intricate or unprecedented the task.
Strong technical accounting background; experience with digital assets is a plus but not required.
Willingness to work with international teams across multiple time zones
CPA certification preferred.
