Job Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Engineer on the Business Analytics team, you will be responsible for:
- Designing, improving, and maintaining the core data infrastructure powering our business modeling, including databases, data pipelines, and servers
- Partnering with our data scientists and analysts to design and build powerful data pipelines required for our modeling
- Partnering with our analysts to design optimized SQL queries, enabling scalable reporting with a growing data volume
- Coordinating with the IT BI team to validate and push optimized queries with logic to our upstream DataMart
- Building and maintaining local ETLs for our specific data technology models and ad-hoc reporting
- Partnering with the IT BI team to enable data sharing processes to flow between our internal database and our corporate data warehouse, and/or other local databases
- Thinking strategically about building a scalable system with a growing data volume and identifying process gaps/areas for optimization and automation
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Mastery of relational databases, SQL, and ETL tools
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field
- Proven track record of building, deploying, and optimizing complex data pipelines (batch and streaming)
- Deep understanding of data engineering best practices and normalization techniques
- Solid experience with Unix/Shell, Python, and big data technologies (Apache Spark, Kafka)
- Expertise in designing distributed APIs, web services, and using orchestration tools (Docker, Apache Airflow, CI/CD)
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices
- Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems (Git, SVN)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
