About Our Team - Advertising and Marketing Technology
Our Advertising and Marketing Technology team is part of Walmart Global Tech, comprising engineers and data scientists who build technology to connect Walmart's suppliers and sellers to shoppers online and in-stores. We utilize cutting-edge machine learning and optimization algorithms on billions of ad impressions and Walmart's proprietary online and in-store data to facilitate customers' shopping journeys. Job Overview - Director of Software Engineering for AdTech
As the Director of Engineering for our AdTech team, you will lead the development of our Display booking application. You will manage a global team of 30+ engineers, providing strategic direction and guidance to ensure the delivery of high-quality products. This role entails technically leading and mentoring a high-performance engineering team, engineering managers, and cross-functional teams to achieve our business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Technically lead and mentor a high-performance engineering team, providing strategic direction and guidance to ensure delivery of high-quality products
- Build and manage relationships with business partners, understanding their business requirements and working closely with Product Management, Architects, and cross-functional teams
- Define the future roadmap of products, adopting the latest technology innovations wherever necessary
- Build tools and automation to prevent re-occurrence of problems, ensuring reliability and availability of mission-critical products and services
- Define engineering practices, product development patterns, and drive product development to scale to Walmart's requirements
- Follow agile methodologies and program practices in the product development lifecycle, focusing on team productivity improvements using the right tools and processes
- Hire talent, mentor, and grow the team to achieve our business objectives
- Proactively monitor, identify, and resolve customer issues to ensure a seamless shopping experience
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Domain expertise in AdTech, focused on Display and Video
- Strong engineering leadership expertise in medium to large-sized companies
- Proven experience in hiring and mentoring world-class engineering teams
- Experience leading large-scale systems in fast-paced environments
- Expertise in multiple distributed technologies (e.g., Spark/Storm, Kafka, Key Value Stores, Caching, etc.) and web application stacks (ReactJS, Node, Java)
- Experience managing web application teams and working with public cloud technologies like GCP, Azure, etc.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a global team environment
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, with 12+ years of industry experience
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with 5+ years of experience in software engineering
- Experience working in large teams using CI/CD and agile methodologies
- Strong understanding of machine learning and optimization algorithms
- Experience with cloud-based technologies and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
