Position Snapshot
Title: Middle School ELL Teacher / Multilingual Instruction Specialist (Grades 6‑8)
Location: William Henry Campus, Capital School District (Remote‑Ready Hybrid Model)
Employment Type: 10‑Month Full‑Time (Temporary placement if hired after August 28 2023, with potential for permanency)

Core Responsibilities – Making a Real Difference
As an ELL Teacher at CSD, you will be a catalyst for language acquisition, academic achievement, and cultural pride. Your day‑to‑day duties will include, but are not limited to:
- WIDA Certification & Implementation: Obtain and maintain required WIDA test certifications. Seamlessly integrate WIDA ELD Standards into daily instruction, ensuring alignment with state and district expectations.
- Student Placement & Assessment: Administer placement assessments to identify ELL eligibility, and conduct annual ACCESS for ELLs to monitor growth in English proficiency.
- Targeted Instruction: Design and deliver small‑group and push‑in instruction that supports multilingual learners in developing oral, reading, writing, and listening skills. Differentiate lessons to meet varied proficiency levels.
- Collaborative Coaching: Partner with general‑education teachers to share evidence‑based instructional strategies, co‑plan lessons, and provide on‑site coaching that enhances EL student outcomes in mainstream classrooms.
- Accommodation Planning: Determine and document appropriate accommodations for multilingual learners, guiding classroom teachers in consistent implementation.
- Family & Community Engagement: Communicate learner progress through parent conferences, IEP meetings, phone calls, and culturally responsive outreach. Serve as a liaison between families and the school, promoting active participation.
- District EL Team Collaboration: Work closely with the district-wide EL team to advance the district’s EL mission, contribute to data‑driven decision‑making, and support school‑wide initiatives.
- Record‑Keeping & Compliance: Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records that satisfy legal mandates, district policies, and accreditation requirements.
- Curriculum Development: Plan and execute a rigorous program of study that aligns with state standards, reflects student interests, and incorporates culturally relevant materials.
- Classroom Climate & Management: Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that encourages high expectations, respectful behavior, and collaborative learning.

Minimum Qualifications – What You Must Bring
- State Certification: Hold a valid Delaware certification for English as a Second Language (ESL) or a related endorsement that qualifies you to teach multilingual learners.
- Experience with Multilingual Students: Demonstrated experience (minimum two years preferred) working directly with English Language Learners in a middle‑school setting.
- WIDA Knowledge: Familiarity with WIDA standards and assessment tools; ability to obtain required WIDA certifications promptly.
- Effective Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex language concepts to students, parents, and staff.
- Collaboration Skills: Proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, sharing expertise and supporting colleagues.
- Background Checks: Successful completion of a favorable criminal background check, Child Abuse Registry check, and mandatory health screenings (tuberculin test, physical examination).
