Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Para II - Center Based Resource professional to provide support to students with special needs in our regular classroom, resource room, or self-contained classroom. As a Para II, you will work closely with our certified staff to implement individualized education plans, provide instructional support, and assist with daily living skills. Key Responsibilities
- Adapt and provide accommodations for classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the teacher to ensure that students with special needs can actively participate in classroom activities.
- Aid students in and out of the classroom, including packing backpacks, note-taking, relationship building, field trips, social skills, and other activities to support their social growth and development.
- Assist students requiring support with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations, such as diaper changing, toilet training, lifting, and feeding assistance.
- Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relative to job functions and meet established annual state requirements.
- Collaborate with staff to provide necessary support and information related to student progress, as established in their Individual Education Program (IEP) under the direction of certified staff.
- Implement behavioral plans for students as designed by the IEP team to assist in meeting special education students' needs and providing a consistent environment.
- Instruct students in a variety of activities in individual and group settings, including academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills, to meet IEP goals under the direction of certified staff.
- Maintain instructional materials and data sheets to ensure availability of instructional materials and provide reliable information regarding student progress under the direction of certified staff.
- Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments and community environments to provide a safe and positive environment conducive to learning.
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- If the school building is classified as Title I, 48 hours of college credit or the ability to pass the Title 1 assessment test is required.
- Ability to work with students with special needs, including those with physical, emotional, or cognitive disabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Basic math skills, ability to read and follow instructions, and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a center-based resource setting.
- Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices, age-appropriate student activities, safety practices and procedures, conflict resolution, and stages of child development/behavior.
- Ability to use district-approved crisis intervention techniques and safe handling of blood-borne pathogens and crisis de-escalation techniques.
- Experience with data collection, scheduling activities, and using basic job-related equipment.
- Flexibility to work with others, work with data utilizing defined and similar processes, and operate equipment using standardized methods.
Skills and Competencies
- Adhering to safety practices and operating standard office equipment, including using pertinent software applications.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records and using district-approved crisis intervention techniques.
- Communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, setting priorities, working as part of a team, and working with constant interruptions.
- Problem-solving to identify issues and create action plans.
- Ability to work with a diversity of individuals and provide support to students with varying needs and abilities.
Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions frequently require the following physical demands: running, walking, sitting, standing, lifting 80 lbs floor to waist, carrying up to 55 lbs, pushing and/or pulling, climbing and balancing, reaching forward and overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity.
